Elizabeth Kapstein

She/Her/Hers
LCSW-R, CASAC, EMDR

Difficult feelings can be a gateway for personal growth. I am an interactive therapist who listens carefully and shares my perspective. Therapy with me is an opportunity to explore and better understand your thoughts and feelings, to make sense of your experiences, to experiment with new ways of being, and to try new things to figure out together what helps. I will make suggestions for things you can try, but you and your experiences will be the true test of whether something works. I want you to feel better, grow, and thrive.

I am an antiracist trauma-informed clinician; an educator; a social justice advocate; a community organizer; an enthusiastic speaker; a training facilitator; a justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion consultant; an ally; an accomplice; and a critical thinker.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-R) with over 15 years of experience collaborating with individuals, couples, families, and organizations experiencing changes through trauma, addiction, and life transition. I have worked with those living with disabilities, living in non-monogamous and/or kink relationships, and identifying within LGBTQIA.

My post-graduate education includes certification in EMDR, Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), and Executive Leadership in the Not-For-Profit-Sector.

My path to this work began with social justice community organizing for community clinics, private practice, community organizations, and health organizations such as Gray Panthers, Anti-Violence groups, AIDS Quilt, Harlem United, Guidance Center for Mental Health, Post Graduate Center for Mental Health, Henry Street Settlement House, TRI Center, and The Recovery Center. Additionally, I am a co-founder of Passing Twice: A Place for LGBT people and their allies, Manhattan Stuttering Group, and moderate a panel of Clinicians Who Stutter for International Stuttering Awareness Day.

I believe in the power of healing, intersectional education, and anti-oppressive treatment approaches. I support validation, forgiveness, connection, rebirth, and vulnerability. I believe you can become your best self, and I am happy to accompany you on that journey.
